Odyssey Innovation Muncher Cruncher plastic shredding machine installed at Exeter City Council's Materials Recovery Facility

Our Muncher Cruncher at Exeter City Council's MRF

Before marine plastic can become a new product, it needs to be processed. That's where the Muncher Cruncher comes in — Odyssey Innovation's industrial shredding machine, installed at Exeter City Council's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which breaks down collected marine plastic into the granules and pellets needed for manufacturing.

What Is the Muncher Cruncher?

The Muncher Cruncher is a key part of Odyssey Innovation's circular economy pipeline. Marine plastic collected through our Net Regeneration Scheme — fishing nets, ropes, rigid plastics — arrives at the MRF in bulk. The Muncher Cruncher shreds and processes this material into a consistent, usable form that can then be fed into injection moulding to create finished products like our recycled marine plastic handplane.

Partnering with Exeter City Council's MRF gives us access to a professional sorting and processing environment — ensuring the plastic is properly classified and prepared before it enters the manufacturing process.

From Waste to Product

This processing step is what makes the circular economy real. Without the ability to shred and sort marine plastic at scale, recovered waste would have nowhere to go. The Muncher Cruncher closes the loop — turning what was once a pollution problem into a manufacturing resource.
